Dining Facilities & Menus

Appalachian Food Services operates a diverse selection of dining options located on East and West campus as well as campus convenience stores and vending machines. The staff takes pride in providing excellent service to our students, faculty, staff and guests. We also post up-to-date facility information, operating schedules and weekly menus.

The Roess Dining Hall

The Central Dining Hall opened in January 2009 [campus map]. It was renamed the Roess Dining Hall in March 2014.  It features numerous dining venues that offer different kinds of meals, snacks, desserts – all prepared under the watchful eye of the dining hall's Chef on staff.

The Roess Dining Hall is home to both the Rivers Street Cafe and Sanford Commons.

Rivers Street CafeRivers Street Cafe operates with All You Can Eat dining during the summer to serve the many camps that take place at Appstate.  You do not need to be a camp participant; Rivers Street is open to all diners. Menus change daily.

Rivers Street Cafe contains numerous unique and delicious dining venues. The choices will satisfy anyone’s APPetite for variety and flavor. Dine on freshly prepared entrees, vegetables, pasta, pizza, sandwiches, salad, desserts and more. The below venues are closed during the summer.

Sanford Commons

Across the promenade, Sanford Commons features additional dining venues as well as our very own Chick-fil-A and Conrad’s Coffee. Stop in for your favorite comfort foods, fresh off-the-grill treats, delicious pizza, subs and more. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Trivette Hall

The newly renovated Trivette Hall [campus map] overlooks Appalachian’s scenic duck pond and is home to Park Place and McAlister’s Select.  The Market at Trivette (see below) is also located here.  Closed during the summer.

Plemmons Student Union

A gathering place for students, faculty and staff, the Plemmons Student Union [campus map] features Cascades Cafe, Frëshens™ and McAlister’s Deli. The University Bookstore Market (see below) is also accessed at the Student Union.

Student Recreation Center

The SRC features the Juice Bar, where students, faculty and staff can grab a pre or post workout snack.  Choose from Frëshens™ smoothies, snacks, sandwiches, fruit and an array of beverages.

The Markets

The Markets, located in Trivette Hall, the University Bookstore and the Appalachian Panhellenic Hall, offer a large variety of convenience store items. The Market also offers candy bars, drinks, fresh fruits, and a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan items. Also included are health and beauty aids for your convenience. 


Vending services on campus are operated by Appalachian Food Services.  The vending machines on campus are designed to accept cash or valid AppCards with account balances. Any suggestions or requests for service or refunds should be made by calling 828-262-3061.
